  • Sara Naely: A Fashion Visionary with Unique Style

"PARIS" COVER EDITION - SEPTEMBER ISSUE MODEL: SARA NAELY - @eclipsiva PHOTOS: TITARSTAR - @titarstar @lestudiohonore MARKETING AND DESIGN DIRECTOR: @mathlopes FASHION DIRECTOR HOOKS: @directorhooks In the captivating world of fashion, where creative expression transcends boundaries, emerges a figure who has been making her mark as both a model and a designer. Sara Naely , with her captivating visage and versatile talent, graces the cover of the September edition of Hooks Magazine, titled "PARIS" , embodying the essence of style and innovation. Sara is much more than just a model or designer; she is a bold voice in the fashion industry, possessing a unique perspective on the world around her and how fashion can serve as a means of self-expression and empowerment. Here, we delve into the fascinating world of Sara Naely, exploring her vision of fashion, self-expression, and the impact of the industry on society. As we uncover her story and unique insights, it becomes evident that Sara is not merely a fashion figure; she is an inspiration to all who aspire to embrace their individuality and use fashion as a medium to express who they are and what they believe in. Check out an exclusive interview: 1. Who are your main inspirations in the fashion world, and how do they influence your style? Naomi Campbell Naomi's looks have become a style reference and are still appreciated today, especially in '90s-inspired fashion. She's also a spokesperson for one of the biggest causes against inequality and racism, among many other issues within the fashion industry. Livia Nunes Livia's fashionable and designer looks are making her the newest Brazilian it girl. Since then, she's been gaining more and more success on the web, being considered a fashion icon of the new generation. I love how she can put together pieces and accessories to create a totally iconic and super fashionable look, which, in my view, suits her well because she feels very comfortable in bold yet authentic outfits. That's what I see about fashion; you create it! 2. Can you tell us about one of the most memorable outfits you've worn in your modeling career? Without a doubt, a Versace dress with a baroque print that I wore in Vienna, Austria, caught a lot of attention from the public! 3. How did your journey in the world of fashion begin? What motivated you to pursue this career? Since my childhood, I've always had a strong desire to be a fashion designer. I used to dress up my dolls, sketch outfits, and imagine and put together various costumes for fun family moments. Everyone around me encouraged me and said I had a talent for it! Additionally, my love for fashion design from a young age led me to participate in various projects and modeling jobs throughout Brazil. Years later, I sought professional fulfillment and enrolled in a fashion designer course. Shortly after, I pursued opportunities in Europe as both a designer and a model. 4. What fashion trends are you most excited to explore in the coming months? "Quiet luxury" is, of course, extremely sophisticated. In this regard, the characteristics of a "Quiet Luxury" look, beyond the quality of the items, include timeless pieces, understated elegance, subtle accessories, and minimal branding. No more logo mania, which was in vogue in past seasons but is now making a comeback. I must confess that I'm very excited about this revival! I find it very chic to combine comfort and elegance in a simple way. This approach greatly appeals to those who have a keen fashion sense, as it doesn't overtly display a person's wealth and emphasizes investing in useful, long-lasting pieces. 5. When it comes to fashion, what is your number one piece of advice for standing out? Above all else, what we wear tells the world who we are or who we aspire to be. Fashion has the power to change and give meaning to life due to its personal connection with each of us. We all need to wear clothes, and every piece we choose to wear represents a personal choice. You can also create your own style or even design your own clothing to contribute to diversity and make the world a unique place. 6. What clothing items or accessories are essential in your wardrobe? A well-tailored piece and all-black items. I prefer basic accessories that serve as key elements to compose a great look with elegance and sophistication. 7. With social media playing a significant role in the fashion industry, how do you think it has changed the way people consume and engage with fashion? With social media, fashion has become more democratic. Anyone can draw inspiration from looks and trends shared by others and create their own style. Additionally, independent brands have more room to showcase their products and build a loyal following. With the power of social media, brands have a greater responsibility regarding ethics and sustainability in their clothing production. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware and demanding in these areas, and brands must adapt to this new reality. As technology advances, it's possible that social fashion will become even more digital in the future. Augmented reality and artificial intelligence can be used to create increasingly personalized shopping experiences.

  • Gabriela Strinban and Well Used: Transforming Fashion and Sustainability

Photos courtesy Well Used - @_wellused In the fashion world, where creativity and sustainability intersect, Gabriela Strinban is a notable figure who is revolutionizing how we view and use clothing. At 26 years old, Gabriela is the founder of Well Used , an online thrift store that goes beyond offering high-quality vintage clothing and also creates new pieces from garments with imperfections that would be discarded. Well Used had its beginnings in 2017 when Gabriela opened her mother's closet and discovered a treasure trove of vintage clothing, all manufactured before the 2000s and in perfect condition. It was the starting point for a journey that led her to create Well Used Thrift Shop at a time when online thrift stores were rare. The first 50 pieces sold came directly from her mother's wardrobe, but Gabriela soon ventured into hunting for items in thrift stores, charity bazaars, and markets. However, the true turning point came in 2020 when the online thrift store trend began to spread. Gabriela didn't want to be just another one among many. Her authenticity drove her to go beyond, and that's how she discovered "rework," a process of recreating clothing from existing pieces that may have minor defects but are still of quality. She didn't know this method had a name, but she quickly found out it was an international trend aimed at reducing textile waste. Brazil generates approximately 170,000 tons of textile waste each year, with only 20% of this material being recycled. The rest ends up in landfills, causing serious environmental damage. Gabriela saw an opportunity to make a difference, and thus, Well Used was born, dedicated to creating fashion sustainably. The process of recreating clothing is at the heart of Well Used. Gabriela transforms garments with minor "flaws" into stylish and unique new pieces. Since the first piece she created, a pair of tailored jeans, her creativity has flourished. Nowadays, she sees potential in almost everything she looks at, finding new lives for clothing that would have been discarded. In addition to offering sustainable fashion, Gabriela strives to raise awareness about the importance of upcycling and rework. She believes that everyone can do their part to reduce textile waste and preserve the environment. Well Used is not just a business but a mission for Gabriela. Check out an exclusive interview with Gabriela Strinban: 1. How did the idea of creating Well Used Thrift Shop come about, and what was the beginning of this venture like? The idea of creating Well Used Thrift Shop came about in 2017 when I stumbled upon my mother's wardrobe filled with vintage pieces. These were impeccable, unique clothes of exceptional quality. They had been stored there for over 20 years. It was quite challenging for my mother to let go of so many clothes that had been a part of her life's history. However, I managed to convince her that these clothes needed a new story and couldn't just sit there for another 20 or 30 years. So, I created the Instagram page "Well Used Thrift Shop," and I remember that there were hardly any online thrift shops at the time. Surprisingly, people still had, and some still do have, reservations about second-hand items. When I created the page, I started with different ideas, photographing the clothes on the streets with a model, giving it an urban and unconventional vibe for a thrift shop. I can say that the beginning was quite smooth. I had no grand expectations, and I couldn't have imagined that it would become everything it is today for me. For a long time, I only sold the pieces that belonged to my mother until I started exploring thrift shops in my city and even beyond Brazil in search of unique finds. 2. What was the moment when you realized that Well Used was becoming more than just a source of extra income? Without a doubt, it was when the pandemic hit. I was already living in another city and had a stable job, but I lost my job due to the pandemic and had to focus 100% on Well Used to sustain myself in my new location. And then, it exploded. Many influential people started following and buying from us. I was making in a week what I used to make in a whole month, working several hours a day. 3. The process of recreating clothing through rework is an innovative approach. How did you start exploring this technique, and what motivated you to adopt it? Amidst many thrift shop finds, I came across some incredible pieces that had some damage, tears, stains... Details that I couldn't overlook in my curation for resale. So, I began to question what I could really do with these pieces so they wouldn't be ignored or discarded. That's when I created a pair of pants that was half jeans and half tailoring, and it turned out amazing! I was completely thrilled with the creation, the discovery, and the feedback, which motivated me immensely. Any clothing, fabric, or scrap I saw in front of me, I could already envision something new for it. It took me a while to discover that this work already had a name and was a trend outside of Brazil. I never studied fashion, and I have no sewing courses; everything I learned was literally the result of my desire and curiosity. 4. Upcycling and patchwork are important trends in sustainable fashion. How do you see Well Used's role in terms of reducing textile waste and raising environmental awareness? I always say that I'm doing my part, but unfortunately, it's still very small compared to what I hope it will be someday. Well Used is a very solid, small, and organic brand. We want to impact people through fashion, to remove the obvious from their minds. You can reuse, repurpose, reinvent, create new ideas for sustainability. People don't realize they can save the world, let alone create a garment from a curtain! The environment is ours; we live in it, and we must avoid the frantic production of new clothing. 5. Brazil faces a significant challenge with improper disposal of textile waste. How do you see Well Used's impact in mitigating this issue? One of my goals with Well Used is to further raise people's awareness of how to properly dispose of textiles, to make it something that interests them in learning more about textile waste. I want to generate enough knowledge for them about Upcycling/rework so that Well Used doesn't just make it an internal job. 6. Over time, how has your creativity evolved and influenced Well Used's creations? What are your sources of inspiration when transforming discarded pieces into new fashion creations? I think the fact that I am a very authentic and curious person has greatly influenced the evolution and creations. Going beyond the obvious has always been clear to me; we can do anything, but it depends on our creativity. I have many sources of inspiration; my mind is a vast source... Everything comes naturally from it. Sometimes, my imagination overwhelms me. But I think something that truly inspires me is seeing people's reactions when I tell them about Well Used. They express so much surprise, so many questions, so much curiosity, and they find the process amazing.

  • Izadora Carvalho: The Symphony of Fashion and Digital Influence

"ITALY" COVER EDITION - AUGUST ISSUE Photographer: Rafa Manson - @mansonstudio Makeup and hair: Rodrigo Lopes - @rodrigolopesmakeup Style: Carlos Martinz - @carlosmartiinz Production: Rafa Mason - @masonstudio Marketing and Design Director Hooks: @mathlopes Fashion Director Hooks: @directorhooks In a stunning fusion of beauty, talent, and digital charisma, we are thrilled to present Izadora Carvalho, a captivating model on the rise as a digital influencer, on the cover of the "ITALY" edition of Hooks Magazine International. Through an exclusive interview that delves into her journey, dreams, and the dynamic realm where photography and digital presence intertwine, Izadora brings her unique story to life, showcasing the synergy between these two universes that are shaping the modern concept of fame. Throughout this metamorphosis from photographic model to digital influencer, Izadora's personality has also flourished. She has overcome initial shyness, finding her voice and communicating with her audience in an authentic and captivating manner. Digital influence is not just about sharing images; it's also about sharing a part of oneself with the world, and Izadora has embraced this change with grace and determination. Check out the exclusive interview below: 1. How do you balance your career as a photographic model since the age of 9 with the recent digital influence you've gained? I never had the dream of becoming a model; it happened naturally. I started posing for local shops in the town I grew up in, Firminopolis, in the interior of Goiás. Later, other stores began inviting me, and my sister owns women's clothing stores in Goiânia, so the invitations kept coming, and it all flowed naturally. I already had an audience on Facebook when I was just 11 years old. After I started focusing more on Instagram, my audience followed me there, and that's when I shifted my focus to Instagram. 2. What are the main challenges you face when working both as a photographic model and a digital influencer? There are numerous challenges; many people think it's an easy job. But it involves a lot of our mental and physical well-being. We're all human beings and have bad days, yet we still have to fulfill our duties. Often, we have to be there with a smile even when we're going through tough times. When you put yourself out there, many people feel entitled to give their opinions or say what they want. So, you have to be mentally strong. Thankfully, the haters are the minority. There are far more supportive and kind people than those who try to discourage us. 3. How have your experiences as a photographic model influenced the way you present yourself and communicate with your audience on digital platforms? Initially, I was quite shy and naturally reserved. But over time, with the support of my family and older sister, I've become much more communicative. I struggled a lot with shyness in the beginning, as I mostly worked as a photographic model where verbal communication wasn't as necessary. However, as an influencer, we have to engage with our audience through communication. I now have numerous partnerships in the fashion, beauty, and aesthetics industries. I feel fulfilled by my growing determination in my professional life. I was even invited by MAC Cosmetics from Spain to film behind-the-scenes at the Portugal Fashion Week held in the city of Porto, Portugal. It was an incredible experience, and I felt honored to have had this opportunity at just 19 years old. 4. How has your presence as a digital influencer positively impacted your career as a photographic model, and vice versa? It has had quite a significant and positive impact. Most people enjoy seeing reality, our day-to-day lives, and this has attracted a much larger audience to my Instagram. I am very happy to share positive tips with my followers. Not only about work; of course, I collaborate with brands I genuinely trust and that have credibility. I would never recommend something to my audience that I don't personally use or trust. But whenever I travel or come across something worth recommending, I always share it with my followers. My audience is growing steadily, and I'm grateful to God for that. It makes me happy because it's a sign that I'm on the right path. 5. What are the most rewarding aspects of being a digital influencer who shares your journey as a photographic model with your followers? The most rewarding aspect is being able to live incredible experiences and share them with my followers. I'm a person of deep faith, with a strong belief in God. I often share a lot about my faith, and I receive many messages from followers thanking me. They often mention that they feel God or hear God speaking to them through some of my posts. This is the most rewarding part for me because God is everything to me. Everything I've achieved and live today is thanks to Him. Every door that has opened in my life, in all areas and especially in my professional life, I know it was Him. So, it's fulfilling not to be known solely for an "external beauty," but to offer and provide much more than that to my followers. Of course, sharing everything related to fashion, beauty, aesthetics, and travel is part of my job. It's also rewarding to see my followers fulfilled, for example, when they achieve a dream aesthetic procedure and are satisfied with the results, following a professional I recommended. From health to aesthetics, or helping someone find the right outfit for a special occasion, it's these small things that are truly priceless. To some, they might seem insignificant or trivial, but only those who truly desire and need them understand the personal significance of each situation, no matter how small it might seem. 6. How do you utilize social media to promote both your work as a photographic model and to connect with your audience as an influencer? As a photographic model, I work on photoshoots for brands. However, as an influencer, I can not only create the photos but also promote the products to my audience. This is beneficial both for me and for my collaborators and followers. I only promote what I truly use, test, and approve. I wouldn't promote something I wouldn't use myself or that doesn't have good quality and credibility. This is crucial for both influencers and our followers. We must value credibility and the assurance that everyone will be satisfied and happy. 7. What values and messages do you aim to convey through your modeling photos and influencer posts? The real me. My essence. I've turned down many campaigns because they didn't align with who I am. I don't want to sell an image of someone I'm not. We already face a lot of judgment from people who don't know us. They judge us based solely on seeing our photos, without knowing the human being behind them. So, I try my best to be transparent and convey my values, principles, and my tastes. In my posts, as I mentioned, I talk a lot about God. I enjoy going to church, but I also like going out, being on a beach, at a restaurant with my friends, or at a beach club while on vacation. But many people struggle to reconcile these aspects and rush to judge. I've struggled a lot with this, to the point of seeking therapy to understand why I felt bad about situations I couldn't control. But today, I handle it much better, with more maturity. I realize that what others say tells more about them than about me. Thanks to God, I can now find that balance without feeling guilty or paying heed to negative comments from people who only want to discourage us. I try to show who the real Izadora is—a person of faith, a dreamer, determined, someone who pursues her objectives without fear, someone who chases her dreams. 8. In your opinion, how is the fusion between the world of photographic modeling and the digital space shaping the industry and how models build their careers? I wouldn't say it's easier today, but I'd say that the digital space has opened up many doors. Before, to become a model, one had to go through agencies and auditions. Nowadays, people can start with their own social media platforms and build their own audience. There's no longer a beauty standard, no rigid measurements. Many women and girls used to struggle with complexes and never believed they could be models or achieve success due to society's imposed "beauty" standard. The digital industry came along and shattered these paradigms and limited beliefs. We see countless models and influencers of all ages, sizes, and colors. There's no limitation on the internet. Today, many people find fulfillment and live their dreams thanks to the digital industry. It's wonderful to witness so many people growing and finding personal and professional fulfillment through the digital industry, which has opened doors and provided opportunities. May everyone have the courage to chase their dreams. It's not easy, but as I always say, nothing is impossible. If you have faith and determination, everything is possible for those who believe!

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Check it out now: 1. How was the transition from being a former beauty queen in Brazil to living abroad? What were the major challenges you faced in this process? One of the barriers encountered in this transition was language. The primary obstacle is undoubtedly language. Despite English being the universal and highly "popular" language, no matter how fluent you are, adapting to everyday English is not as simple as it seems. This is because there are various accents, alternative vocabularies, and numerous slang terms (which depend on the region you reside in). Also, the distance from family and friends. Initially, it may not be noticeable, but as the days go by, the feeling of missing loved ones grows, highlighting how challenging it is to live far away from those we cherish. 2. You've mentioned your love for fashion. How do you perceive the difference in fashion trends between Brazil and the country you're currently living in? Being Brazilian anywhere in the world means spreading the "joy of living" that we carry within us! In fashion, the fundamental difference lies in sensuality, which is much more pronounced in Brazilian fashion. 3. What are your most memorable moments from your career as a beauty queen? Do they still influence your life today? When I think about my time as a beauty queen, the first thing that comes to my mind is the moments when I participated in national pageants. Undoubtedly, they are some of the most unforgettable moments of my life, moments I carry as some of the happiest, as they were the opportunities God granted me to truly transform my life. And my passion for the world of pageantry remains strong to this day. 4. Living in a foreign country certainly brings unique experiences. How has your experience abroad inspired your perspective on fashion? Fashion is an expression of our identity, a language that speaks of our cultural roots, visions, and perspectives. 5. As a former beauty queen and a fashion enthusiast, do you have any advice for young individuals aspiring to enter the international fashion industry? My advice is: Stay focused. It's not effective to search for opportunities in a disorganized manner. Only send your resume and channel your energy towards positions that truly align with your profile. If something is lacking, go after it: take courses to become the professional that the company desires and needs. Tailor your resume for the fashion industry. It's not enough to have a well-structured resume only when aiming for a position with an international fashion brand. Every detail matters, including your resume. Your creativity will always be evaluated. 6. Who are your favorite designers or fashion brands? Have they changed since you moved abroad from Brazil? First and foremost, my favorite designer is Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, a lovely name. Coco Chanel, the French designer and founder of the Chanel brand. As for my favorite brands, they have always been Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and Versace. 7. How do you perceive the role of social media in the fashion industry today compared to when you began your career? Today, I view social media as a significant force in the fashion world. Initially, fashion was exclusively explored through magazines and, to some extent, television. However, with the advent of the internet, things began to change. Currently, social media stands as the most influential platform globally. This has a tremendous impact on the fashion realm. The growth of the fashion industry has been notably pronounced in recent times, and social media plays a substantial role in driving this surge in consumption. In the past, fashion was dictated by a closed circle of fashion enthusiasts who set trends. Now, with the widespread popularity of social media, the dynamics of power have shifted entirely. 8. Among all the achievements you've reached so far, what do you consider to be the pinnacle of your journey as a model and fashion enthusiast? The pinnacle of my journey is closely associated with fulfillment. I've always maintained clear and defined goals in my life and have consistently strived to achieve them, as they are crucial to my well-being. Throughout my journey, I've encountered various obstacles and overcome them all to attain a sense of fulfillment.
