Raphael Clímaco: The Success Story of a Veterinarian Who Transformed the Pet Market

With more than 13 years of entrepreneurial experience, veterinarian Raphael Clímaco has become one of the leading figures in Brazil’s pet industry. A graduate of Faculdade Pio Décimo in Aracaju (SE), he began his clinical career in 2011, when he founded Mr. Zoo 24-Hour Veterinary Hospital, now recognized among the Top 100 veterinary hospitals in the country and recently expanded with the opening of a new branch in Belo Horizonte.

The inspiration to create a pet health plan came from a striking experience: a pet owner brought his diabetic dog to the hospital in an advanced stage of the disease, and unfortunately, she had to be euthanized. At that moment, the owner confessed that if he had the option to invest a monthly fee to avoid that outcome and save his pet’s life, he would have done so without hesitation. This episode sparked Raphael’s idea of offering pet owners a continuous and affordable healthcare alternative, leading to the creation of Plamev – Pet Health Plan in 2013.

Initially limited to Mr. Zoo, Plamev grew to become a national benchmark in animal welfare. Following an administrative restructuring and the entry of investors, the company consolidated its presence nationwide, growing more than 250% during the pandemic and attracting funds such as FIR Capital and VS1 in a Series A round. Today, the plan offers coverage across Brazil, with digital tools that connect clients to an extensive accredited network.

With a visionary mindset, Raphael decided to step away from clinical practice to dedicate himself fully to management and innovation in the sector. It was in this transition that he created Acelera Vet, a training hub designed for veterinarians who want to manage their businesses efficiently, exploring areas such as management, marketing, leadership, and technology.
